Abelene Gun Club has operated from its current location for over 50 years, tracing its roots back to the late 1940s after WWII. What started as a post-war community resource has grown into a 23-acre facility that serves roughly 1,000 family membership holders—men, women, and supervised youth—plus regular visitors from Dallas, Fort Worth, Midland, and Odessa.
Public Access: - 25-yard to 200-yard firing line with covered shooting benches - One covered 25-yard pistol bay with three movable target boards - All firing lines equipped with backboards for target placement
Members-Only Access: - Two additional 40-yard covered pistol bays - 300-yard and 400-yard rifle benches (pre-qualification required) - Covered muzzleloader and pistol bay for qualified match shooters
You don't need a membership to shoot matches. The club welcomes all skill levels—beginner to expert—and charges just $5 per entry.

Abelene Gun Club has served the Abilene Police Department, local prison system, and Dyess Air Force Base with firearms training. The facility has also hosted 12th Armored Division reunion activities. Their instructors have certified over 2,000 concealed handgun license holders.
Classroom space is available for rent ($50 per four hours, $100 refundable deposit) during normal business hours.
A range officer manages the property daily. The club enforces strict safety protocols: no alcohol while on premises, breech open except when firing, all shooters under 18 must be supervised, and no fully automatic weapons. Shotguns are not permitted.
