Texican Rangers started in 1994 with fewer than twenty shooters on a yellow legal pad and rocks holding down the stage descriptions. The club is part of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society), an international organization dedicated to preserving Cowboy Action Shooting™. This isn't just shooting—it's dressing the part. Tall boots, spurs, leather chaps, sombrero, cartridge belt, and a pair of single action revolvers. You choose your character: marshal, army scout, cavalry officer, or gunslinger. Cowgirls can dress as Calamity Jane, Poker Alice, or go full Scarlet O'Hara.

Texican Rangers hosts Comancheria Days every spring (usually April). This annual shoot draws competitors from across the country. 2026 will be special—the club is hosting the SASS Texas State Championship April 9-11, celebrating America's 250th anniversary.
Comancheria Days started in 1995 with fewer than a hundred shooters. It's been held continuously since then (with one exception) and now includes shooting stages, mounted events, and Native American encampments.
The Texican Rangers operate from Stieler Ranch, established in the late 1800s by Adolph Stieler on one of Kerr County's highest hills. In the 1940s, it was the "Angora Goat King of the World" operation—60,000 Angora goats producing wool and mohair when Texas led the nation in that industry. Today the ranch runs Black Angus cattle and supports white-tailed deer hunting, while hosting the Texican Rangers' shooting operations.
Run by active shooters with SASS experience: - San Saba Slim, President - Sheriff Robert Love, Vice President - Tombstone Mary, Treasurer - Shooting Iron Miller, Secretary - Fister Bo & Doc Holloman, Co-Range Masters - Dutch Van Horn, Communications
Getting Started: Check the website calendar for upcoming shoot dates. First-timers are welcome. The Texican Rangers community emphasizes safety, courtesy, and fun—they pride themselves on being "the finest, most polite and most safety conscious folks you'll ever meet."
If you're interested in Wild Bunch™ shooting:
The club also offers an OPEN non-award category for shooters just getting started in Wild Bunch™.
BAM (Bolt Action Military) is shot as a side match, usually Saturday after the main match. Must use original caliber bolt action rifles issued to any country's military through WWII, with original iron sights and as-issued configuration (internal mods allowed). Faithful reproductions are approved.
Due to ammunition availability, Texican Rangers also offers Rimfire Cowboy/Cowgirl matches using .22 caliber lead bullets only (no jacketed rounds) for both pistol and rifle portions of stages.
