Cavalier Rifle & Pistol Club is a private shooting range in Montpelier, Virginia, providing members with premier facilities for rifle and pistol target shooting since 1937. Located at 14151 Boondock Lane, this established club features six dedicated shooting ranges equipped with covered firing lines, professional target stands, and shooting tables to support recreational and competitive marksmanship.

Cavalier Rifle & Pistol Club operates as a members-only facility. The club currently maintains a 2+ year waiting list for new membership. To join, applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older
  • Obtain a membership application from a current member sponsor
  • Have a current member co-sign the application
  • Complete orientation and pay initiation fees and dues

Applications are reviewed annually, with invitations typically extended March through April. Prospective members are encouraged to attend public competitive events to meet current members and find a willing sponsor.

The club accommodates a wide variety of firearms with its six specialized shooting ranges. Members enjoy opportunities for both recreational target shooting and competitive marksmanship matches. Public events and competitive matches are held on weekends and are open to the public unless otherwise noted.

As an NRA-affiliated organization, Cavalier Rifle & Pistol Club is committed to firearm safety education. The club regularly hosts youth organizations including Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts troops, providing safe firearm instruction, camping facilities, and a lake for fishing.

All members and visitors must adhere to strict range safety protocols, wear appropriate eye and ear protection at all times, and follow all posted range rules. Firearms must remain unloaded except on the designated firing line.

  • Note: The range is currently closed through February 1, 2026, with all activities cancelled during this period.
