Full description and what we offer
Sailor's Creek Outfitters operates Central Virginia's most comprehensive guided hunting program. Located near Rice, Virginia—neighboring the famous Civil War battlefield and minutes from Briery Creek Lake and Sandy River Reservoir—the operation spans over 4,200 strictly managed acres of rolling hills, farmland, creek bottoms, and carefully maintained food plots.
Chris McClellan and his team spend countless hours scouting, setting tree stands, and managing habitat to ensure both quantity and quality of game. This isn't casual hunting—it's methodical habitat management designed to produce trophy-class whitetails and healthy turkey populations.
Deer season runs October through December across three distinct phases:
Archery Season (Early October) Bow hunts focus initially on late-summer feeding patterns and food plots, then transition to hardwood areas as acorns drop. Stands include ladders, tripods, shooting houses, and ground blinds. You can bring climbing stands if preferred. All hunters must have TMA-approved safety harnesses.
Bucks must be minimum 16" wide with 4 scoreable points on one side. DMAP tags available for hunters willing to harvest mature does as part of herd management.
Muzzleloader Season (First 2 weeks of November) This is RUT season. Bring your smoke pole for what outfitters call "magical time of year."
Rifle Season (November & December) November rifle hunts target the peak rut. December hunts focus on winter feeding patterns as bucks try to refuel depleted bodies.
| Hunt Type | 3 Days | 6 Days | Extra Days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Archery | $1,500 | $2,900 | $500 |
| Muzzleloader | $1,800 | $3,400 | $600 |
| November Rifle | $1,800 | $3,400 | $600 |
| December Rifle | $1,500 | $2,900 | $500 |
All hunts include lodging, meals, skinning, quartering, and transportation upon arrival. Youth weekend deer hunts available last weekend of September for $1,000 (2 days).
Season dates vary year to year. Call 434-603-2803 for exact 2025 dates and current availability.
Turkey populations are strong. The operation harvests only mature gobblers to ensure healthy long-beard populations.
Fully Guided Hunts You and an experienced guide hit the woods before dawn. They know turkeys and use all standard tactics: blinds, decoys, runnin' and gunnin', strut-zone tactics. Bring your own calls or let the guide do the talking.
Semi-Guided Hunts (Experience Required) Guides show you roosting areas, strut zones, and property lines. The rest is on you. Requires familiarity with OnX hunting app prior to arrival.

|---|---|---|
| Fully Guided | $1,450 | $2,800 |

Woodcock Hunts Over 2 miles of Appomattox River frontage, hundreds of acres of floodplain, swamps, and creek drainages—prime woodcock habitat. Fully guided with pointing dogs. Bring your own dog to mix with theirs if desired. Combine with half-day quail hunts.
