Def-Tac - DEF-TAC TRAINING

Def-Tac Training operates a private range in Wood County, West Virginia (approximately 3.5 miles from the intersection of State Route 2 and Route 31, near Parkersburg). Unlike ranges that sell guns and gear on the side, Def-Tac focuses exclusively on firearms instruction. They don't sell firearms, ammunition, or equipment—they train shooters.

Their goal is simple: provide professional, practical, and responsible firearms training to both law enforcement and private citizens, emphasizing safe handling, fundamental marksmanship, and basic tactical skills.

All Def-Tac instructors are National Rifle Association certified. The facility maintains an annual qualification program that rates instructors as Instructor, Senior Instructor, or Chief Instructor based on live-fire performance.

• •Basic Pistol (West Virginia) – 8 hours, $100. Meets all concealed carry permit requirements for WV.
• •Basic Pistol (Ohio) – 8 hours, $150. Mandatory Ohio course with all CCW permit requirements.
• •NRA Personal Protection In The Home – 8 hours, $200. Defensive shooting skills and home safety strategy (requires prior pistol training or assessment).
• •NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home (Levels 1 & 2) – Level 1 is 9 hours ($200), Level 2 adds 5 hours ($additional cost). Covers concealed carry, draw from holster, and advanced defensive positions.

All pistol courses include: - Written certificate of completion or certification - Classroom instruction on gun handling rules, parts, operation, ammunition - Range time with multiple shooting positions - Cleaning and maintenance instruction

• •Tactical Carbine I – Full day, $295. Introduction to AR15, M4, AK47, or 9mm+ carbines. Covers positional shooting, high-stress conditions, reloading, multiple targets, cover and concealment, movement. No prerequisites.
• •Tactical Carbine II – Full day, $295. Continuation course covering weapon transitions, optic failures, team movement, support-hand development. Requires Tactical Carbine I.

• •Carbine requirements: 600 rounds per course, 3+ magazines, tactical vest/belt with pouches, sling, cleaning kit, optional optics.

• •Tactical Shotgun – Full day, $250. Fundamentals of shotgun self-defense including equipment modifications, deployment, room clearing, and rapid tactical reloading. Each student's shotgun is patterned at multiple distances with four separate defensive loads to verify capability.

• •Non-Lethal Self Defense (Pepper Spray) – 3-hour course, $35–$65 depending on equipment tier:

Course covers pepper spray effects, West Virginia and Ohio law, deployment techniques, discharge, movement, and multiple-assailant scenarios. Includes inert training unit and active unit for immediate protection.
