Delton Sportsmen's Club started as the Delton Target Club in the 1950s, holding 22 shoots in a town hall basement. After losing membership briefly, it was formally established on June 23, 1959 under the direction of Ernest Volz, Ember Adams, James Clark, and Edith Burgess. Today it operates as a charitable organization and remains one of Central Wisconsin's most active sportsmen's facilities.
The club owns over 42 acres acquired through three major purchases: - July 23, 1975 — Initial 17.4 acres - September 24, 1981 — Additional 15 acres - May 12, 2008 — Final 10-acre parcel
This land base supports multiple range facilities that have been continuously upgraded and expanded.
The centerpiece is a 150-yard rifle range that received a major NRA-funded upgrade in 1998 to meet handicap-accessible standards. The range operates on a self-policed model — there are no full-time Range Safety Officers. Members are expected to follow TABK guidelines, enforce their own safety protocols, and maintain cold/hot range procedures.
Key Rules: - Aimed fire only (full second between rounds) - Eye and ear protection mandatory - Paper targets only - No fully automatic firearms - No .50 BMG - Red cease-fire lights required - All shooters must sign in at the range log book - Members can use the range during permitted hours unless closed for special events
A second trap range was built in spring 2006 and became operational in under two weeks. The club hosts both trap shooting and sporting clays events throughout the year.
Non-members can participate in trap, sporting clays, and scheduled events by paying per-event fees when the club is open — you don't need a membership for one-off events.

Beyond shooting sports, Delton has invested in Mirror Lake and Lake Delton community projects: - Placed fish cribs in Lake Delton in 2009 following the 2008 catastrophic draining - Upgraded the fishing pier at the public boat launch on Mirror Lake in 2010 - Built firewood sheds for the Friends of Mirror Lake at Mirror Lake and Rocky Arbor State Parks
The club also hosts the annual Mirror Lake Fisharee, supported by local Wisconsin Dells businesses.
