Full description and what we offer
Randy Selby has been building rifles since 1969, learning from mentors who shaped American firearms testing. His grandfather, Earl Brahler, was a gunsmith and lodge owner near Yellowstone. More importantly, Randy spent thousands of hours starting at age 8 working alongside Les Bowman, the man major firearms companies sent their rifles to for testing—Colt, Remington, Winchester, Weatherby, and others all trusted Bowman's work.
That foundation matters. Randy's not just a gunsmith; he's a trained engineer, machinist, and tool & die maker who learned ballistics from someone the industry considered the most qualified rifle tester in the country.
Randy's facility isn't typical. He has a complete machine shop and a test range right out the back door with validated distances at 100, 300, 400, 500, 585 yards and beyond. Every custom rifle gets accuracy tested and velocity checked before delivery.
What he builds: - Lightweight to Safari-style hunting rifles - Match rifles for varmint and bench shooting - Long-range precision rifles to 1000+ yards - Takedown rifles in any practical caliber - Rifles for specialized needs (youth shooters, disabled or vision-impaired hunters, custom requirements)
Technical capabilities: - Chambers rifles in hundreds of calibers - Hand-loads for over 170 calibers - Designs and manufactures custom muzzle brakes - Builds custom actions for specific requirements - Stocks from common to exotic woods, laminate or fiberglass, with or without checkering - Applies proprietary accuracy techniques developed over decades
"I don't think that I have ever seen a better collection of gunsmithing tools and equipment in any shop I have ever visited, or in fact, owned." — Eb Tarr, independent gunsmith (1991)
Randy inherited specialized tools and jigs from his grandfather, many one-of-a-kind pieces designed for work no commercial tool manufacturer offered. He's built custom fixtures and dies himself over a lifetime of work. This isn't setup for volume; it's setup for precision.
Randy combines field experience with technical expertise. He's a big game hunter who tests calibers and ammunition combinations in actual hunting conditions. His rifles have gone to hunters across North America, Alaska, Canada, Africa, Germany, and Australia—rifles people pass down to their heirs.
He evaluates your shooting style, needs, and goals to build a rifle that works for you. Each order is custom; there are no discounts or off-the-shelf options.
