Jason Coder grew up in Elk County, Pennsylvania, hunting the Allegheny National Forest and guiding bear hunters before relocating to Wyoming. He's a licensed Wyoming Outfitter (#B145) and co-founder of the local Ducks Unlimited chapter. His wife Darlene runs the lodge and hospitality side. Together they've built Rusted Oak Ranch into an operation that hunters return to year after year—treating clients like family rather than transaction numbers.
"Book a hunt and stay at our ranch as a guest and leave as a friend." — Jason Coder
Most hunts include all meals at the lodge, private lodging at the ranch, and transportation to/from Rapid City Regional Airport or Gillette Wyoming Airport, plus daily transportation to hunting areas. High-speed Wi-Fi and a fully renovated guest lodge with private bedrooms, kitchen, and common areas.
Typical whitetail bucks run 140"+; mule deer 150"+.
Will accommodate spot-and-stalk if you want to cover ground, or stationary blind hunting if that's your preference. They work with you to match the hunt to your hunting style.
Multiple five-star reviews highlight the Coders' hospitality and the ranch's effectiveness:
"From the moment we arrived to the moment I was dropped off at the airport, they treated us like family. I didn't feel like just another hunter to them." — Justin Decroo (mule deer hunt)
"Jason and Darlene are the most genuine people you will ever meet. The entire experience, from the day we arrived to the day we left, was second to none." — Jason Wylie
"Rusted Oak Ranch Outfitters is by far the best small outfitter in the business." — Jason Wylie
The ranch has worked with the It's About the Warrior Foundation to host veteran hunts, with multiple veterans citing the experience as transformative and the hospitality as outstanding. One group of 9 hunters harvested 14 animals (elk, mule deer, whitetail, antelope, coyote) in a week.
You'll need preference points for antelope and deer hunts if you're a non-resident. The application deadline is October 31st. Contact the outfitter for guidance on the preference point system and application process.
