Full description and what we offer
Great Southern Outdoors sits on 11440 Hwy 82 W in Union Springs, AL, operating a private wildlife plantation in the Black Belt Region—an area that hosts Alabama's largest deer population. Bullock County ranks #1 in the state for whitetail deer hunting, and GSO has managed this land for trophy-class game for over 20 years.
- •Whitetail Deer - The core operation. GSO was among the first to implement Quality Deer Management (QDMA) in Alabama, maintaining a 2:1 buck-to-doe ratio. Hunts run October through February 10th. Harvest limits: 1 buck (8 points or better, outside the ears), 1 doe, and 2 wild hogs with no trophy fees. If you harvest all 4 animals, you get a FREE hunt the following season.
- •Wild Hog Hunts - Available year-round, especially February through September (outside deer season). These are FREE hunts—you only pay for lodging and meals. GSO uses bait and motion-detector lights for night and early morning hunts. No limits on hogs harvested, no trophy or cleaning fees.
- •Pheasant & Quail Hunting - Available on the property, with pheasant hunts managed alongside deer seasons.
- •Sporting Clays - 12-station champion course for downtime between hunts.

- •$600: 2 nights lodging, home-cooked meals, guide fee
- •$900: 3 nights lodging, home-cooked meals, guide fee (select dates)
- •Licensing Requirements: Out-of-state hunters over 16 need a 3-day small game non-resident license. All hunters need Alabama's Baiting Privilege License and Nighttime Feral Swine & Coyote License (resident permits available).
Groups of 15+ can book private hog hunts with custom scheduling (subject to availability). Full payment required regardless of final headcount.
- •Trophy-Class Habitat - Rich Black Belt soil produces abundant natural protein. Springs, creeks, and lakes throughout the property create ideal deer country. GSO plants hundreds of acres of crops each spring and fall exclusively for wildlife nutrition.
- •20+ Years of Management - In 2021, GSO earned National Deer Association's "Deer Steward II Class" certification. That track record shows in the quality of animals on the property.
- •All-Inclusive Experience - Every hunt includes on-site lodging and home-cooked meals prepared by full-time kitchen staff. No hidden meal costs or facility charges.
- •Family-Friendly - Kids always welcome. Women receive a 10% discount on gun deer hunts. GSO offers a "His & Hers" special with deep discounts for couples, including a complimentary return hog hunt the following year.
Owner Rex Pritchett III founded GSO with a vision of creating a family-friendly hunting destination. Management has since passed to his son Hunter. Over the years, GSO has hosted:
- •Families from across the country
- •Celebrities and political figures (governors, senators, ambassadors)
- •NYPD and FDNY guests (post-9/11 outreach by Alabama Governor)
- •Veterans and active military
- •Hunters with disabilities
GSO has hosted outdoor writers and dozens of magazine cover shoots. In 2016, GSO hosted the Alabama World Champion Bow Hunter Tournament—a multi-day event where hunters scout their own areas and compete for titles.
- •Full lodge with comfortable lodging
- •Full-time kitchen staff preparing home-cooked meals
- •12-station sporting clay course
