Location details and information
The Army Aviation Shotgun Club (AASC) is a premier shotgun sports facility located at Fort Novosel in Alabama, dedicated to promoting recreational skeet and trap shooting for military service members, retirees, civilians, and community members.
The club specializes in: - Skeet shooting across six dedicated fields - Trap shooting across two dedicated fields - Instruction from National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) certified instructors - Youth and collegiate skeet camps - NSSA-sanctioned competitive events
Founded in the early 1960s as the Ft. Rucker Skeet and Trap Club to support morale and recreation during the Vietnam War era, the club has evolved into one of Alabama's premier shooting complexes. It officially changed its name to the Army Aviation Shotgun Club on April 10, 2023, following the Department of Defense installation renaming directive.
Notable achievements include: - NSSA Club of the Year (1988) - Member club in good standing with NSSA since 1984 - Established the first NSSA youth skeet camp in the nation (2004) - Hosts 12+ NSSA-sanctioned national, regional, and local events annually - Home to NSSA Master Skeet Instructor LTC (R) Ralph Aaron - Shoots over 300,000 targets annually
The facility is located at Building 9350, Mayfield Avenue, Fort Novosel, AL 36362. Installation access may be required for non-military personnel. The club operates completely self-sufficient, funded by member dues and tournament fees rather than government funding.
The 1.5-acre complex features recently upgraded infrastructure including eight shooting fields (six skeet, two trap), modern clubhouse, RV parking with electrical hookups, and ample parking. All machines have been updated within the last decade, and facilities include roofed shooting houses.
