The Arizona State Rifle & Pistol Association operates as the hub for competitive shooting, firearms training, and marksmanship development across Arizona. ASRPA manages multiple specialized divisions, hosts sanctioned competitions, and runs educational programs for shooters of all skill levels.
ASRPA's Education and Training Division, directed by Noble C. Hathaway, offers proprietary courses not widely available elsewhere. Their philosophy combines rigorous instruction with an accessible, fun learning environment.
Core Training Courses: - Modern Sporting Rifle 101 & 202 – Covers safety, operation, history, models, calibers, and field work with various sights (red dot, scope, iron sights) and targets - Modern Sporting Rifle Smallbore Course – Family-friendly classroom instruction followed by range time with dedicated instructor per firing point - Service Rifle Family Smallbore Course – 12-week winter semester begins January 8, 2026 at Ben Avery Small Bore Range ($150-$250) - ASRPA Defensive Use of Firearms – Original Official DPS Arizona Concealed Weapons Certification Course from 1995, taught several times yearly. Next class: Saturday, January 10 at PineRock Camp in Prescott (8:30 AM-5 PM). Free lunch and manuals included ($25-$45 registration) - Range Safety Officer Course and Certification – Free to schools and entities, taught multiple times per year - Civilian Anti-Terrorist Survival (CATS) Course – Designed after the Pulse Nightclub attack in Florida, teaching situational awareness and group protection in malls, entertainment venues, and auditoriums - Firearm Safety and Storage Course – Instructor certification available; tri-folds distributed free to schools - Arizona Defense Match – Rifle handling, safety, competition, and preparedness for all skill levels. One state championship annually - Coaches Certification Course – For pistol, rifle, and shotgun. By appointment or special class only

2026 Calendar Highlights: Junior Smallbore Program runs weekly 6-8 PM starting January, Civil Air Patrol Marksmanship Program, 22 BPCR matches, Cast Bullet matches, Schuetzen Rifle matches, and the 134th Washington's Birthday Match (February 22, 2026) with individual ($45) and team ($180) registration options.
