Full description and what we offer
Desert Wolf Tours operates the only experience in Arizona that combines off-road driving with fully-automatic machine gun shooting. Located 30-40 minutes north of Phoenix and Scottsdale, this outfit takes groups into the Sonoran Desert for a 3-4 hour experience that covers both worlds in one adventure.
You'll drive a Tomcar UTV (the Humvee of the UTV world—originally designed for Israeli Defense Forces) about 8 miles into the desert. First stop: their private shooting range. An NRA-certified instructor and range safety officer walk you through firing real, fully-automatic machine guns. Then you hop back in the Tomcar and continue your off-road tour through the Sonoran Desert at the base of the Bradshaw Mountains.
Every adventure includes ammunition and instruction on three weapons:
Additional firearms are available à la carte (MP5, and others). All firearms are manufactured and maintained by Desert Wolf Tactical LLC, their federally licensed manufacturing subsidiary based in Anthem, Arizona.
All firearms included in adventures are real, fully-automatic weapons—not civilian semi-auto conversions. This is the genuine article.
| Category | Cost |
|---|---|
| Shooter (12+ years) | $399/person |
| Spectator | $189/person |
| Military/First Responder Discount | $10 off (with valid ID) |
Included in every adventure: - Ammunition for all standard firearms - Bottled water and coolers - Electronic hearing protection - Souvenir Desert Wolf DustGaiter - NRA-certified instruction
These aren't your typical UTVs. Tomcars weigh just under 1,800 pounds, feature independent front and rear suspension, and have a wide wheelbase. Every vehicle is equipped with a 4-point safety harness system. Federal law requires DOT-approved helmets for anyone under 18—Desert Wolf provides them.
Desert Wolf doesn't provide hotel pickup. Instead, they recommend arranging your own transportation because:
1. Most guests want time to eat/drink at the on-site RoadRunner Restaurant & Saloon ("locals" hangout) 2. Nearby attractions include Anthem Outlet Mall, Pioneer Living History Museum, and Cave Creek, AZ 3. Flexibility to maximize your vacation plans
Transportation options in Phoenix/Scottsdale: - Resort car rentals (usually on-site) - Independent rental agencies throughout the valley - Ride-sharing (Uber, Lyft) - Dedicated transportation companies
Transportation CAN be provided for larger groups for an additional fee (call for pricing).
Safety is their number one concern. Any guest can be removed from the firearms portion for safety reasons at instructor discretion. No refund will be issued.
Ranked #6 in the U.S. on TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Best of the Best. This is the only place where you can legally drive military-grade off-road vehicles AND fire fully-automatic machine guns in the same day—and nowhere else in Arizona offers this combination.
Their guides are experienced in both off-road instruction and firearms safety. Instructors appreciate tips, which supports their career viability.
