Bay Area Firearms Training Group operates out of Burlingame with a straightforward mission: teach people how to handle firearms safely and competently. Scott and his team of NRA and California Department of Justice certified instructors have been running these courses for over two decades.
They take everyone from absolute beginners—people who've never seen a gun before—to shooters looking to sharpen skills or go tactical. The classes attract first-time gun buyers, people interested in sport shooting, those seeking self-defense training, survivors of assault, and folks just curious about firearms.
Beginner Entry Points: - Home Firearm Safety ($140) — Classroom only, no live fire. Perfect for families. - Introductory Shooter Bundle ($200) — First timers only. Loaner guns included, plus targets, eye and ear protection. Range fees and ammo extra. - FIRST Steps Courses ($199 each) — Specialized 3.5-4 hour intro classes for pistol, rifle, or shotgun. NRA's FIRST program (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training).
Intermediate & Specialized: - Full Length Pistol Lessons ($250) — First-timers or refresher for shooters inactive 6+ months. - Three Gun Shoot ($425) — Experience Glock pistol, AR-15 rifle, and shotgun in one day. - Three Gun Tactical Shoot ($425) — Moves beyond basics into rapid fire, shooting on the move, tactical reloads, malfunction clearing.
Family & Youth: - Junior Safety Program — Ages 12+, teaches marksmanship and safety with NRA-certified coaches.
Specialized Certifications: - California CCW and Florida multi-state carry permits - Guard cards (BSIS) - Exposed firearms permits - Rifle scope zeroing and marksmanship - CPR/AED/First Aid training
Classes run 7 days a week, 5 nights a week. Starting times: 9am, 10:30am, 6pm. Kids 12 and up welcome with ID.
They provide brand-new, top-of-the-line firearms for courses. Pistol students shoot Glock, rifle students choose between Ruger AR-15 or Ruger Mini-14 (both with optics), shotgun students use Mossberg or Remington.
