Califoria Gun Services solves a problem most people don't plan for: what happens to the firearms when someone passes away, or when you inherit guns you don't know how to handle, or when you just need them gone.
Owner Jeff McCabe holds an ATF Federal Firearm License, is approved by the California Department of Justice, and is a Certified Safety Instructor. Orange Police Department trusts him with their gun disposal referrals. He comes to your home—you don't haul firearms anywhere.
- •Gun Disposal - Remove unwanted firearms legally and safely. McCabe picks them up from your house, handles everything according to California law and federal regulations.
- •Gun Transfers - Private party transfers, inheritance transfers, and voluntary registration. Private party transfers require both parties present at an FFL (McCabe's licensed)—typically $25-$35 with a 10-day waiting period. Buyer needs valid ID, proof of residence, Handgun Safety Certificate, legal eligibility, and passes DOJ background check.
- •Gun Appraisals - Online and in-person appraisals on any firearm. Fair market value determined by researching recent sales of identical make/model on national auction sites. Estate or probate appraisals cost $25 per gun.
- •Ammunition Audit - Home inspection of your ammo covering four critical areas:
- •Right ammunition for your guns - Wrong caliber can cause catastrophic damage. Example: a 20-gauge shotgun shell in a 12-gauge shotgun can lodge part way down the barrel, allowing the correct round to chamber—when fired, it destroys the shotgun with potentially lethal results to the shooter.
- •Storage condition - Moisture exposure causes corrosion on bullets (jamming risk) and can prevent gunpowder ignition, creating "squib loads" that lodge bullets in barrels. Next round fired into the stuck bullet causes catastrophic gun damage.
- •Proper containers - McCabe recommends metal military ammunition cans with rubber seals to block moisture, labeled on the outside for contents.
- •Legal compliance - Identifies and removes illegal rounds (Armor Piercing, Incendiary, Tracers, Exploding rounds) to Sheriff's Department for destruction.
- •Gun Compliance Audit - Full inspection of firearms for California legal compliance. McCabe can modify guns that became illegal under recent law changes to bring them into compliance.
- •Gun Collection Purchases - McCabe purchases unwanted firearm collections outright.
"I didn't want to keep them and was unsure what to do with them. Jeff was very nice, easy to talk with, trustworthy and knowledgeable. He came to my house, checked all the guns to make sure they were unloaded and removed them. He also told me one of the guns was a collector's item and was able to sell it for me." — Rhonda Murphy, San Clemente
McCabe doesn't just dispose of guns. A recent client inherited 4 firearms (2 handguns, 2 AR-15s) from his father. McCabe: - Verified legal ownership eligibility - Taught disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly - Covered safe storage and transportation - Explained owner responsibilities - Left the door open for future questions
Another family lost the father unexpectedly. The widow worried about two handguns and three shotguns stored in the home with teenage children around. McCabe educated the entire family on safety, taught her son to load/unload/clean, purchased and installed a gun safe, modified one gun that became illegal under new California law, and encouraged safety training.
- •Not for "gun people" - McCabe specifically positions this for people who happen to have guns but aren't gun enthusiasts. No judgment, no lectures about why you should keep them.
- •Licensed & Approved - ATF Federal Firearm License, DOJ approval, Orange Police Department referral partner, Certified Safety Instructor.
- •Home Service - No driving to a gun shop. He comes to you with proper equipment and training.
- •Personal Approach - Each situation handled privately with customized solutions.
Process is certified by local law enforcement, adheres to all state and federal firearms laws, and legal safe.
