Kern County Gun Club operates a full-service shotgun sports facility at 12450 Shotgun Rd in Bakersfield, California. The club serves both serious competitive shooters and novices getting started in clay shooting.
The facility features four distinct clay shooting disciplines:
The annual Fall Sporting Clay Shoot runs a 20-station course with a $100 entry fee ($500 for 5 shooters). Station sponsorships are available at $250 each.
Approved Shotguns: - Over-Under - Semi-Auto - Side by Side - Gauges: 12 GA, 20 GA, 28 GA, 410
Ammunition Rules: Only shot sizes 7.5, 8, or 9 are permitted. Steel shot is prohibited.
The club sells ammunition on-site: - Standard ammunition (typically Remington Gun Club) - Premium ammunition (typically Winchester AA) - Reclaimed and reloaded shot - subject to availability
All prices include California sales tax. Starting July 1, 2019, California requires background checks for ammunition purchases. You'll need either a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), REAL ID Driver's License, or proof of residence plus birth certificate/passport.
Core Safety Requirements: - Ear and eye protection required at all times in shooting stations - Maximum 2 shells loaded at any time - Never load the gun before stepping into the shooting window - Always clear and open breech/barrel when finished - No retrieving empty hulls until all shooters complete the station - No alcohol on the course - Wildlife awareness required
Club Etiquette: Proper gun handling includes keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction, treating it as loaded, maintaining a stable shoulder-width stance, and following range protocols.
