Full description and what we offer
Trojan Archery is a student-run collegiate archery program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. What started 25 years ago has become both a recreational club and a nationally-competing team, representing USC across the United States in archery competitions.
This is the biggest barrier killer: you don't need to own equipment, you don't need prior experience, and you can literally walk in and shoot for free twice. After that, club membership is $120 per semester or $180 for the full academic year (cash, check, or Cash App accepted).
- •Access to all club equipment—shoot immediately while you decide if you're buying your own
- •6 hours of open practice on campus each week
- •USA Archery-certified instructors and coaches
- •Club T-shirt and stickers
- •Path to the competitive team if you want it
Archers shoot in four competitive divisions:
| Division | Details |
|---|---|
| Olympic Recurve | Traditional competition format |
| Barebow Recurve | Recurve without sights or stabilizers |
| Compound | Fixed-pin compound bows |
| Compound (Open) | Advanced compound division |
You pick your style during qualification sessions (held late September), and if you make the team, equipment rental is available at $25/month + $100 security deposit for team members.
Team members must attend at least 2 of 5 weekly practice sessions (includes off-campus Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday practices)
- •Indoor Season (Late January–February)
- •Qualifiers run October–November for flight placement
- •Team members expected to attend at least one qualifier and one tournament
- •Outdoor Season (April–May, optional June tournaments)
- •No qualifiers required
- •One main tournament (optional)
The club has multiple Level 2 USA Archery-certified instructors and coaches on staff. They handle:
- •Range safety and management
- •Beginner technique instruction
- •Advanced skill development
- •Video analysis and feedback
- •Competition coaching
- •Here's the real talk: peer-to-peer instruction is encouraged too. If you're shooting alongside teammates with similar goals, they can spot technique issues, take video, and help you improve between instructor sessions. Many of the student instructors love shooting too—they're not just standing around.
Want more than just showing up to shoot? Leadership roles include:
- •Elected positions (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Team Captains)
- •Appointed positions (Armorer, Social Media Director, etc.)
- •Instructor certification (subsidized USA Archery Level 2 classes, twice per year)
- •Peer-to-peer coaching (help teammates develop skills)
- •Volunteer shifts (setup, supply runs, event support)
1. First time? Show up to a practice and shoot free (twice) 2. Ready to commit? Pay dues ($120/semester) and you're in 3. Want to compete? Sign up for qualification sessions in late September, shoot, submit scores, get evaluated, receive invite

On-campus archery range plus off-campus locations for competitive team (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday sessions). Part of USC Recreational Sports.
- •No pressure, all welcome. You can shoot recreationally forever, try for the team, become an instructor, or just be that person who shows up and shouts "GET BIG GET GOLD!" at competitions. The club genuinely doesn't care—they just want archers on the range.
