Blue Valley Sportsman Club was incorporated in 1955 after years of informal organization by sportsmen and women in Grand and Summit Counties. Today it remains the oldest private shooting club in the region—a member-owned operation that supports hunters, competitive shooters, and firearms enthusiasts across Colorado's high country.
- •Location: Mile Post 128.1 on Colorado Highway 9, approximately 27 miles north of Silverthorne and 11 miles south of Kremmling, just north of the Summit/Grand County line.
Four shooting benches with backstops at: - 100 yards - 200 yards - 300 yards - 400 yards
Several steel silhouette targets set at various distances for dynamic practice.

- •Important: Trap and skeet operations sometimes close the longer rifle ranges. The club manages this through scheduling and their range-control flag system.
Dedicated facility for handguns and black powder rifles. Biodegradable clay targets permitted (do not shoot rifles at the clay target range—pistol range is for pistols and rimfire rifles only).
The club enforces strict safety protocols that go beyond basic firearm handling:
- •All guns considered loaded at all times
- •Chamber ammo only at the firing line
- •Mandatory eye and ear protection
- •Keep finger off trigger until ready to fire
- •Muzzle pointed downrange or below the horizon at all times
- •Zero firearm handling when shooters are downrange
- •No scope adjustments until all shooters behind the firing line
- •Cease-fire protocol: actions locked/bolted open, guns unloaded
- •Shoot only paper targets, clay silhouettes, or clay birds—no glass or hard plastics
- •No centerfire rifles on pistol or shotgun ranges
Range Control Flag System: A new range-control flag marks the firing line. Flag down = range hot (open). Flag up = range closed. All shooters must obey this signal immediately.
Each member is responsible for: - Reading and initialing the range rules - Wearing membership card or presenting it when asked - Cleaning up all brass and trash produced - Removing paper targets from backstops when finished - Keeping targets OFF the wooden posts and steel crossbars (rubber belt section only) - Reporting trespassers or unsafe behavior to club officers
- •First-Person Range Master Rule: The first person at the shooting benches becomes the range master. When they leave, that responsibility transfers to the next arrival. The range master controls opening/closing the firing line and enforces safety.
- •Opens: 30 minutes before sunrise
- •Closes: 30 minutes after sunset
- •Member-Only: Non-members allowed only as a member's guest (limit 2 per visit)
- •Public Shoots: Non-members welcome during organized club events
- •Family: Members' immediate family welcome
- •Gate Security: Members close and lock the gate when entering and leaving. Gate combination is member-only—do not share with non-members.
Blue Valley regularly hosts: - Novice Trap Classes - Club Board Meetings (monthly) - Trap Captain's Meetings - Organized Shoots (public welcome) - Hunter Education Classes (partnerships with Colorado Parks and Wildlife) - 4-H Shooting Sports programs - Ladies Cast and Blast Workshops

The range is bordered by active cattle range. Farm animals have right of way across the property. No hunting of wildlife is permitted on club grounds. Dogs are not allowed at the range.
Vehicle access to targets is discouraged except to the 200-yard backstop and beyond (stay on established trail). Do not drive during wet conditions—all shooters expected to walk to the 100-yard ranges.
- •Strict prohibition: No alcohol consumption by anyone shooting on the range. After firearms are properly stored and the event concludes, moderate alcohol may be consumed responsibly. Always plan a sober driver.
