Full description and what we offer
Hat City Pawn operates registered FFL locations in Danbury, Norwalk, and Torrington—all stocked with what they claim is one of the best ammunition supplies in Connecticut. This isn't a side business for them. Firearms and ammo are core to their operation, and they're actively building inventory on both fronts.
What they carry: - CT legal rifles and firearms - Registered Glock dealer status - Constantly expanding ammunition shelves - Out-of-state FFL transfers for handguns and long guns (call your local store for pricing)
They handle the transfer process for customers buying firearms from out-of-state sellers—a service that saves shooters from having to drive across state lines or deal with multiple FFLs.
Doug Mineo (Co-founder) is a former Waterbury police officer with 10 years on the force. He spent that decade in and out of pawn shops and recognized the need for accessible short-term loans in the community. Doug is one of two certified NRA pistol course instructors on staff.
Anthony (Co-founder) focuses on keeping pricing competitive and flexible—including their "high end pawn loans" program designed to help people through tough economic times.
Jon manages the Norwalk location and has been with the shop for five years. Customers describe him as "approachable," "understanding," and "a lot of fun to deal with."
Bill manages the Danbury store and has been with Hat City Pawn for eight years. Beyond in-store operations, he manages all eBay sales and online valuation.
A pawn loan is straightforward: you pledge collateral (jewelry, construction equipment, electronics, firearms-related gear, etc.) and get a 30-day loan in cash. After 30 days, you either:
"Hat City Pawn realizes that these are tough economic times and is therefore responsive to customers' needs. Hat City Pawn will work with its customers through extensions and grace periods if necessary to allow customers to get their pawned merchandise back."
Pawned firearms and valuables are stored in a secure area separate from the retail showroom with state-of-the-art security systems and burglary safes. This keeps items safe and prevents unnecessary handling.
Hat City Pawn buys used items they can sell at reasonable markups. This means loan amounts will be lower than retail prices—but that's how they can afford to stock what they sell. All inventory pricing is tied to current eBay values, so you're getting market-rate used pricing.
Buy something used and it doesn't work? No problem. Bring it back within 3 days with your receipt and they'll refund your money. They test merchandise carefully, but things slip through sometimes.
