SIG SAUER launched two new hammer-fired pistols at SHOT Show 2026—the P211-GT4 and GT5—and the double-stack 1911 market just got a serious new competitor.

The P211 series is SIG's first double-stack 1911-style design, combining traditional hammer-fired operation with modern capacity. Both models ship with two 21-round magazines plus one 17-round magazine—21+1 in a platform that still feels like a 1911. The GT5 runs a 5-inch bull barrel with a full-length steel frame and dust cover; the GT4 gets a 4.2-inch barrel and carry-length dust cover.
What departments should know: Magazine compatibility with the P320 means agencies already running SIG can pull from existing inventory without a separate supply chain.
- Both models feature ambidextrous thumb safeties, grip safety, and firing pin safety—covering carry and duty requirements
- Straight-pull triggers are engineered for consistent breaks, not the mushy feel that plagues some double-stack conversions
- Steel frames with precision-engineered alloy grip modules should outlast polymer under heavy training loads
The strategic play: This launch timing isn't coincidental. It comes while the P320 faces ongoing legal challenges over alleged unintended discharge issues.
- SIG appears to be hedging its striker-fired dominance with proven hammer-fired technology that sidesteps current P320 controversies entirely
- Military and law enforcement agencies are quietly showing renewed interest in hammer-fired backup options
The competition angle: Springfield Armory has owned the double-stack 1911 market for years. SIG is taking direct aim at that position—with P320 magazine compatibility as a differentiator that Springfield can't match inside its own ecosystem.
Both models feature 3-slot Picatinny rails. SIG displayed both pistols at booth 73039 during SHOT Show's January 20–23 run in Las Vegas. Pricing and availability dates have not been released.
What to watch: Whether law enforcement agencies already invested in P320 infrastructure start transitioning to the P211 series as hammer-fired interest grows—and how Springfield responds.
