The Illinois Target Archery Association (ITAA) is the state's primary organization for competitive target archery, connecting archers from Chicago to Cairo through sanctioned tournaments and community events.
ITAA hosts a structured competition calendar throughout the year:
- •JOAD Indoor State Championship (January) — youth-only competition
- •Indoor State Championship (January-February) — all ages, 18m and 25m distances
- •Collegiate Indoor State Championship (April) — for college-age archers
- •JOAD Outdoor State Championship (June) — youth outdoor competition
- •Summer Elimination Games (June) — head-to-head tournament format
- •United Bowmen Round (July) — historical inter-state challenge match
- •Outdoor State Championship (August) — all-ages outdoor competition
- •USA Archery Judge Certification Seminar (September)
While JOAD tournaments are youth-only, all-ages events welcome young archers competing in their respective divisions.
Beyond their own competitions, ITAA connects archers to major tournaments including the Northern Regional FITA Field Championship (spring at CBH in Bolingbrook), the Midwest Open (fall in Peoria), The Vegas Shoot, and USAA & NFAA nationals.

The association maintains relationships with clubs hosting regular shoots, including Chicago Park District Archery Association, Lincoln Park Archery Club, Chicago Archery Club, and North Side Archery Club, which runs weekday evening leagues throughout the summer.
