Bi State Sportsman's Association

Bi State Sportsman's Association operates the Quad Cities' primary shotgun shooting complex, spanning approximately 45 acres of well-maintained woods, open pasture, and dedicated shooting ranges. Located south of the Mississippi River in Colona, IL—just west 1/4 mile from I-80 Exit 7—the facility serves shooters from both Illinois and Iowa sides of the metropolitan area.

The complex includes:

• •Four Skeet Fields with high house and low house trap machines launching targets from the standard semicircle positions
• •Three Trap Fields for American Trap, wobble trap, and handicap shooting
• •One 5-Stand Field with three distinct skill levels and variable trap combinations
• •One Sporting Clays Course with variable 10, 12, and 15-station configurations for skilled, intermediate, and beginning shooters
• •Shotgun Patterning Board Range where shooters calculate pattern percentages, pattern density, and point of impact

The large, spacious clubhouse includes full dining and meeting amenities. The facility easily accommodates family outings, community groups, civic organizations, church groups, business events, and fundraisers. Bi State can coordinate shooting activities for groups of 200+ participants with skilled, trained shooting coordinators present at all times.

Safety is the number-one priority. Every group receives a detailed safety briefing covering Bi State's safety requirements and policies before range activities begin.

Skeet: Shooters fire from eight positions on a semicircle with 21-yard radius. Clay targets (4 5/16" diameter, 1 1/8" thick) fly 62 yards. High house launches from 10 feet above ground; low house launches from 3 feet. Most shooters use double-barreled over-under or side-by-side shotguns with 26-30 inch barrels and open chokes, though semi-automatics and pump-action shotguns are also used.

American Trap: Five stations positioned 16 yards behind the trap house. Trap machine oscillates left to right within a 54-degree arc. Shooters fire 25 targets per round in singles competition, or 10 targets (5 pairs) in doubles. Handicap events place shooters 18-27 yards from the trap house based on skill level.

5-Stand: Five shooting stations with 6-8 trap machines throwing various target combinations. Participants shoot in turn from each stand following a menu card sequence. Requires less walking than full sporting clays while providing similar variety.

Sporting Clays: Three main categories—NSCA English Sporting (most popular in the US), 5-Stand, and FITASC International (most challenging). Courses use six different clay target sizes to simulate live hunting scenarios with unpredictable trajectories, angles, speeds, and elevations.

Bi State serves as the Quad Cities home range for Youth Shooting Sports Association (YSSA), a charitable non-profit dedicated to introducing young shooters aged 8-23 to amateur shooting sports. Year-round classes teach safe, ethical firearm use across competitive shooting disciplines. Both beginners and experienced competitors benefit from courses designed for skilled, intermediate, and beginning skill levels.

The complex sits in the Quad Cities metropolitan area (population ~400,000) spanning Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa and Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline, Illinois. The region is home to:

The facility is positioned between Minneapolis and St. Louis (north-south) and Chicago and Des Moines (east-west), making it accessible to shooters across the central US.

Bi State welcomes members and non-members. Individual and family memberships are available. The range operates year-round and accommodates competitive events, casual practice, group outings, and corporate events.
