Hoosier Hills Rifle & Pistol Club was incorporated as an Indiana non-profit in 1959 and has operated continuously for 65+ years. Started in a Bloomington hotel basement, they built an indoor range at the former Bakalar Airbase in Columbus before moving to their current 40-acre outdoor facility in Brown County.
The club operates on Camp Moneto Road in Gnaw Bone, Indiana, midway between Columbus and Nashville just off Highway 46. The facility includes:
Rifle Range - 400 yards long with 14 covered benches at the firing line - Firing line is 60 yards wide - Steel targets at various distances - Club provides stands, cardboard, and targets for general use
Pistol Bay - 30 yards across, 20 yards deep - Tables for bags and weather awning - Numerous steel targets for general use - Limited to .22LR and pistol calibers only (no jacketed magnums, bottlenecked, or rifle rounds)

To Join: 1. Be an NRA member (or join) 2. Have Indiana License to Carry or equivalent state permit (or pass club background check) 3. Complete one of these safety routes: - Participate in 3 matches, OR - Participate in 1 match + approved training class (Hunter's Ed, USCCA, NRA courses with live fire), OR - Have NRA instructor certificate or shooter ranking 4. Print application, attend events to get officer sign-off, submit with payment at a meeting
Renewal Schedule: Regular and Family memberships renew December 31 each year. Memberships not renewed by April must rejoin and pay the joining fee again. Prorated joining rates available May-October.
Equipment Restrictions (All Areas): - No full-auto firearms - No .50 BMG - No explosives or incendiary ammo/targets - No steel core, AP, or light AP ammunition on steel targets - No unconventional targets (computers, TVs, rocks, concrete) - No organic targets (pumpkins, watermelons) unless cleaned up afterward
Attire Requirements: - Closed-toe, closed-heel shoes - Shirts with tight collars recommended (loose necks can catch hot brass) - Shirts must extend below belt - Dress for woods hiking (ticks, mosquitos, poison ivy potential)
Non-Member Access: - Welcome at all matches and events - Outside events, must be accompanied by a member at all times - Must sign a waiver (available at range or printable) - Range is members-only; trespassing non-members can be reported to Brown County Sheriff or Indiana State Police

HHRP focuses on safety, responsibility, and sportsmanship. They believe teaching people to handle firearms safely—including kids through their youth program—keeps communities safer. The club has zero discrimination policy and welcomes shooters of all backgrounds and skill levels to compete and train.
