Howard County Izaak Walton League - the Ike's

The Howard County Izaak Walton League (commonly called The Ike's) operates multiple outdoor ranges at 2629 S 200 E in Kokomo, Indiana. Each range is purpose-built for specific shooting sports: rifle/pistol, skeet, trap, and sporting clays.

The Ike's enforces comprehensive range rules that apply to all shooters:

Core Safety Principles: - Keep gun pointed in safe direction at all times - Keep finger off trigger until ready to shoot - Keep gun unloaded until ready to use - Eye and ear protection mandatory for all shooters and spectators on active ranges

Range Operation: - Red lights at firing line signal "cease fire"—range is "cold" - Green lights mean range is "hot"—commence fire when ready - Open chamber indicator flags required in firearms during cold range - Only shooters behind firing line when range goes hot

Approved Targets: - Paper targets - Balloons affixed to backboard - Clays in frame or on ground (never actively thrown)

Prohibited Targets & Practices: - No bottles, jugs, vegetables, fruit, or loaded cartridge cases - No explosive targets (Tannerite, etc.) - No animals - No ricochet-prone targets (rocks, concrete, flat metal) - No rapid fire (shots less than 2 seconds apart) - No fully automatic firearms - No 50 BMG ammunition - No tracer rounds - No magazine dumps or bump firing - No shotguns at the 10-yard line - No alcohol or drugs affecting judgment on range

The Ike's also hosts: - Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) for junior shooters - Howard County 4-H Shooting Sports programs - Regular skeet and trap shoots throughout the year - Board meetings held monthly at the Ike's Clubhouse for member governance

Membership is required for range access. Members can also rent the clubhouse for events. The facility includes a membership application process and scholarship opportunities for eligible shooters.

• •Disciplinary Structure: Range violations follow a three-step process—first offense results in written warning, second offense triggers 2-month gate card suspension, and third offense results in loss of membership. Members can petition the Board for privilege reinstatement.
