Full description and what we offer

St. Joseph County Restoration Club operates a full shooting facility near Elkhart with separate trap, rifle, and pistol ranges—each with its own rules and setup. This is a member-run club focused on safe shooting practice and competitive matches.

The trap range is open to the public on Sundays from 1 pm to 3:30 pm (weather permitting). Non-members shoot for $7 per round. The club provides the trap thrower, scorekeeper, and clay birds—you just bring your own shotgun and ammunition. Summer hours expand to 9 am–7:30 pm Monday–Saturday, 1 pm–5 pm Sundays. Members can use the range any day throughout the week with their own trap thrower.

Lee Ornat coordinates trap operations and handles new membership sign-ups during public shoot times.

The covered rifle range has three yardage options: 25, 50, and 100 yards. The northernmost 25-yard lane is designated for pistol or defensive shotgun use. Members can shoot during summer hours (9 am–7:30 pm Monday–Saturday, 1 pm–5 pm Sundays) and winter hours (9 am–5 pm Monday–Saturday, 1 pm–5 pm Sundays). Each member can bring up to 2 guests.

The covered pistol range runs 25 yards with 5 lanes. Steel swinging targets are acceptable (deflect bullets downward to reduce ricochets), though paper targets are preferred. Glass and canisters are not allowed. All targets must be at least 3 feet above ground. The club provides trash barrels for spent brass.

You must be 21 years old to join. Membership costs $125/year.

Three ways to join: 1. Show up during public trap shoots (Sundays 1–2 pm, weather permitting) and sign up with Lee Ornat 2. Attend a general club meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7 pm 3. Mail in the membership application with your $125 fee to: - SJCRC, P.O. Box 242, Osceola, IN 46561 - (Mail processing takes up to one month)

Guests: Members can bring up to 2 guests per visit. All guests MUST watch the club's Orientation/Safety Video before participating.

The club enforces strict safety protocols: - Empty Chamber Indicators (ECI) required on all firearms when not on the firing line - Hearing and eye protection mandatory - Muzzle always pointed downrange - No firearm handling when anyone is downrange setting targets - Members are responsible for their guests' compliance with all rules - Horseplay is prohibited and grounds for membership revocation

The club has posted an Orientation/Safety Video that all new members must watch before using the ranges.

The club hosts multiple match events throughout the year: - Cold War Match - Doomsday Match - Bolt Action Rifle Match - PPC Match (Police Pistol Combat) - Benchrest Match - GSVM Match - D-Day Match - Rimfire Sporter - Speed Pistol Match - Rimfire Silhouette - WWI Action Bolt Action Match
