Izaak Walton League - Red Cedar

Red Cedar Chapter has been part of the Vinton community since 1952, operating as a chapter of the Izaak Walton League—an organization founded in 1922 to protect outdoor America. The chapter's mission goes beyond shooting: they manage natural resources, run youth programs for Boy Scouts, maintain trails, and protect wildlife habitats including the Day Bird Sanctuary, Eels Prairie, and the Tobin Trees of Iowa.

The club maintains multiple shooting facilities on its grounds:

• •Two regulation trap ranges with voice calling boxes and full lighting
• •Rifle/handgun range with 100, 50, and 25-yard lanes
• •Archery range with ground and elevated shooting positions, multiple earthen backstops
• •Steel shooting events and courses
• •Black powder shooting opportunities

• •Trap Range — Open to everyone. Thursday evening shoots at 6pm (spring through fall). Members shoot for $5 per round; non-members pay $7 per round.

• •Rifle/Handgun Range — Open sunrise to sunset daily for members (with $25 annual range fee). Hosts multiple events including .22 steel shoots, .22 bench rest competitions, black powder shoots, and monthly steel shoots.

• •Steel Shooting — First Wednesday of each month at 6pm for non-magnum pistols and pistol caliber carbines ($10/night). Memorial Day rimfire steel shoot features NRL22-style competition.

• •Archery Lessons — Vice President Joe Redenbaugh offers on-site instruction. Contact 319-504-0827 for scheduling or group sessions.
