Full description and what we offer
Upland Inn Hunts operates one of southern Kansas's most serious game bird operations. Jason Johnson's 12,000-acre property near Greensburg combines 6,000 acres of native grass CRP (spread across 50 different fields) with pivot-irrigated cropland—corn, beans, milo, and wheat—to create habitat that holds pheasants through every season.
The habitat work is deliberate. They use controlled burns to prevent native grass from becoming too thick, strip disking to open bugging areas for broods, inter-seeding with forbs and legumes (which studies show increases insect numbers by 300%), and strategic food plots. Cellular trail cameras throughout the property monitor bird populations year-round. On their best days, they count over 500 pheasants during a 4-hour hunt.
They hunt fewer times per field. Because they have 50 CRP fields across 12,000 acres, most fields only get hunted 6-8 times per season. Late-season pheasant hunts in January are as productive as early season hunts. Average highs in January run near 50°F—comfortable walking weather.
Kansas allows 4 roosters per day (33% higher than South Dakota). This means more birds in your bag and longer action days.
Over 90% of past hunters rebook with Upland Inn Hunts—a clear indicator of hunt quality and hospitality.

They run a mix of pointing dogs and flushing dogs. Thick CRP cover and low hunting pressure mean their pointing dogs get plenty of points. You're encouraged to bring your own—nothing beats watching your dog work wild pheasants in that grass.
With 50+ cellular trail cameras monitoring the property, they track pheasant densities, brood success, and predator activity daily. Roadside counts every spring and fall provide statistical data on upland game populations. They know where the birds are and when they'll be there.
