Caldwell County Sportsman Club

Caldwell County Sportsman Club operates Jones-Keeney WMA Range as a no-cost resource for shooters of all skill levels. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit is laser-focused on keeping this range open and accessible—they've explicitly stated they oppose turning it into a private or pay-to-use facility.

The range currently hosts scheduled events for:

• •Archery - Free bag target range (field points only, no broadheads) open 7 days a week, 9 AM to sunset. Equipment loans available for new archers and youth.
• •Airguns - .22 caliber and smaller only
• •Shotguns - Turkey shot loads only (no buckshot or slugs)
• •Trap shooting - Community trap days held seasonally

A December 2021 tornado damaged the forest behind the range's berm, creating a safety issue. Archery Club Road sits 700 yards downrange. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources now requires major restrictions:

• •NRA-certified Range Safety Officers at all events
• •WMA User Permits filed 30+ days in advance
• •Limited ammunition types to ensure safety

KDFWR is planning an Overhead Baffle System to make the range fully functional again. Latest estimate: $1.25 million. The club is fundraising to cover the state's matching portion and working with local government on a path forward.

CCSC gives back through:

• •Free youth archery equipment (funded by Walmart grants totaling $3,500)
• •Caldwell Co. 4-H Sharpshooters practice facility (Tuesday evenings, March–September)
• •Free trap days and turkey gun patterning events
• •Free community events (3D shoots, kids' activities)
