Berwyn Rod & Gun Club

Berwyn Rod & Gun Club was established in 1938 by firearms owners, collectors, competitors, hunters, and fishermen united by a single purpose: promoting safe and responsible firearms use, nature preservation, and community service. Nearly 90 years later, that mission remains unchanged.

BRGC operates as a private club but memberships are available to the public. You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 21 years old, and legally allowed to own firearms under federal, state, and local Maryland law. The application is free and carries no financial obligation until you decide to join.

The club maintains outdoor ranges for: - Pistols - handgun shooting - Rifles - maximum 100-yard distance - Shotguns - no clay sports (no trap, skeet, or sporting clays facilities) - Archery - dedicated archery range

Getting in involves six steps:

1. Submit membership application 2. Sign Firearms Declaration Form and Liability Waiver 3. Pass Range Rules Test (80% correct answers required) 4. Document firearms safety training or equivalent experience 5. Attend mandatory Range Safety Orientation 6. Attend Club Business Meeting and receive member vote

Approximately 50 full memberships become available each February/March. If the club is at capacity when you apply, you can become an Associate Member and move up when a slot opens.

• •Juniors Program - Free training for individuals under 21 in safe firearms handling and basic marksmanship. Hours posted on club calendar.

• •Maryland Hunter Education Courses - The club provides Maryland Department of Natural Resources hunter education courses to the public annually. Check calendar for dates.

Membership includes active and retired U.S. Armed Forces personnel, law enforcement (current and former), and civilians of all ages and skill levels. Members range from beginners to national record holders. Many compete in local and national matches. The club actively emphasizes knowledge-sharing among members.

BRGC doesn't offer training directly, but authorizes independent trainers to use club facilities. These include:

• •Blue Griffin Consulting (Dwight Barnthouse) - NRA courses, Maryland HQL, Maryland Wear and Carry
• •Kaleidoscope Systems (Jim Saville) - NRA courses, Maryland certifications, club membership prep courses, archery training
• •Personal Protection Partners (George Collis) - Basic pistol/rifle, personal protection, MD HQL, CCW training, holster drawing fundamentals
• •WroRez Training & Consulting (Jeremy Wroblewski) - NRA, MD Wear and Carry, MD HQL, private coaching, First Aid/CPR/AED

• •No loaded firearms on property - All firearms must be unloaded before entry and remain unloaded until placed on firing line
• •No metal targets, bowling pins, or ricochet-generating targets
• •Gun control requirement - All members and guests must log in/out each visit
• •Ammunition restrictions - Certain ammunition types prohibited (see Range Rules for specifics)
• •Full auto limitations - Non-members and invited guests cannot shoot full auto in full auto mode

• •Doesn't sell firearms or ammunition
• •Doesn't rent range time, firearms, or facilities
• •Doesn't provide targets
• •Doesn't offer clay sports (trap, skeet, sporting clays)
• •Doesn't grant interviews or provide legal opinions on firearm laws
• •Doesn't offer daily public facility tours

From Route 197 in Bowie, turn onto Lloyd Station Road and drive past the Disabled American Veterans - Omaha Beach, Chapter 7. The clubhouse and ranges are approximately 100 yards from the intersection of Lloyd Station Road and Laurel-Bowie Road.

Like most clubs, BRGC depends on member volunteers. Opportunities range from grounds maintenance to coaching new shooters to community outreach.
