Stockbridge Sportsmen's Club occupies over 200 scenic acres on West Stockbridge Mountain—property the club purchased from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts back in 1982 after years of fundraising and persistence. What started as a dream in a rainy April 1976 meeting has turned into one of the Berkshires' most complete shooting and sporting clubs.
Members have year-round access to:
Members can bring guests to use the facilities. New memberships require sponsorship by a current member—the club vets applications to keep the community focused on safe, responsible shooting sports. Non-residents are welcome; the club provides specific guidance on Massachusetts firearm transport and compliance requirements.
The club owns over 200 acres extending from the clubhouse well into West Stockbridge and over the ridge. Only current members and guests accompanying them may use the property for recreational purposes.
The club offers a wide range of safety and skills courses:
The club's history tells the story: Founded in 1976 by 41 hunters, fishermen, and conservationists, it took 6 years to secure the property and another 3 years of volunteer labor to build the clubhouse. Members and the local business community donated equipment, expertise, and thousands of hours. In one year alone, over $10,000 worth of firewood was cut, split, and delivered using all volunteer labor.
Recent infrastructure improvements include new pistol range berms, pistol house interior upgrades, rifle range drainage work, indoor archery facility updates, new main building fascia and gutters, and a new flagpole.
The club hosts regular shooting events and leagues. An annual sweepstakes fundraiser supports ongoing capital improvements. Members receive club newsletters with event schedules and updates.
Stockbridge Sportsmen's Club is affiliated with the NRA, GOAL (Gun Owners' Action League), NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation), and Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. The club maintains a strong commitment to wildlife conservation—a core mission since its founding.
