North Leominster Rod & Gun Club is a member-supported organization in Lunenburg, Massachusetts serving central Massachusetts shooters for over 75 years. Located off Lancaster Avenue, the club maintains nine trap fields, three skeet fields, a 50-yard pistol range, a 200-yard rifle range, and an archery range.

The facility supports multiple shooting disciplines:

  • Trap and Skeet: Nine trap fields and three skeet fields open to members and non-members (May-October: Saturday 9am-12pm, Sunday 9am-1pm)
  • Rifle and Pistol: Dedicated 50-yard pistol range and 200-yard rifle range for members only (8am to half-hour before sunset daily)
  • Archery: Member-only range open 8am to half-hour before sunset daily
  • 5-Stand: Seasonal shotgun course (closed off-season)

The club's Training and Education Committee hosts regular NRA Home Firearms Safety (HFS) courses—a four-hour classroom course that qualifies for Massachusetts firearms licenses (LTC/FID). The course covers:

  • NRA's three rules for safe gun handling
  • Primary causes of firearms accidents
  • Firearm parts and how to unload action types
  • Ammunition components, cleaning, and safe home storage
  • Live fire pistol, rifle, and shotgun courses available

Students receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, Gun Safety Rules brochure, and course completion certificate.

The club hosts year-round events:

General Membership Meetings are held at 7:00pm on the third Thursday of January, April, September, November, and December.

New applications are submitted to the Board of Directors, which meets the first Tuesday of each month. Your application gets reviewed at the next available meeting. New members attend an orientation class before receiving their membership card.

The club enforces strict safety protocols:

  • Eye and ear protection required on all ranges except archery
  • Zero tolerance policy for confrontations on club property
  • Children under 13 must be supervised by an adult at all times
  • No loaded firearms away from the firing line (except holstered protection firearms)
  • No alcoholic beverages on any range
  • 15 MPH speed limit on club property
  • No smoking in clubhouse buildings
  • Service dogs only; pets not allowed in main clubhouse

Range-Specific Rules:

  • Rifle/Pistol: No fully automatic weapons. Only non-metallic/paper targets unless specifically approved. Steel targets only at 30+ feet. No tracer or incendiary ammunition.
  • Pistol Range: Paper targets accept all pistol calibers and .22 rimfire rifles. Steel targets accept pistols on gongs/silhouettes only.
  • Rifle Range: Only slugs allowed for shotguns (no buckshot or birdshot). .50 BMG firearms prohibited without Board approval.
  • Trap/Skeet: Target loads only. Shot size limited to 7½ or smaller. Shotguns only on these ranges.
