West Branch Sportsmen's Club

West Branch Sportsmen's Club started with 10 charter members shooting at a local farm. Today it's a 27-acre facility with 125 members, formal clubhouse, and ranges that keep expanding. The club moved to its current location at 1888 Engman Lake Road in Skandia in 1972, and has been upgrading facilities ever since—most recently adding a 300-yard range in 2019.

Range Facilities: - Covered rifle ranges: 50, 100, 150, 300, and 400 yards (200-yard range coming Spring 2025) - Covered trap shooting range - Covered pistol range - Clubhouse with full basement and modern facilities - Unrestricted access to ranges whenever you want

Membership Costs: - One-time lifetime initiation fee: $50 - Annual dues: $50/year - New members pay prorated dues at $4/month

The club offers multiple paths for shooters and hunters:

• •Hunter Safety Classes — Running 20+ years, offered regularly
• •CPL (Concealed Pistol License) Training — Certified instructors on staff
• •Rifle Sight-In Days — Free to the public before deer season (30+ year tradition)

• •UP Predator Challenge — Now in its 24th year (2026), this winter hunt draws hunters from across the Upper Peninsula. Kick-off event includes registration, pasty dinner, door prizes, and raffles.

• •Annual Turkey Shoot — Running 30+ years, a community staple.

• •Summer Shooting Nights — Trap, pistol, and silhouette shooting one night weekly.

You need to attend one monthly meeting in person to apply. Your application is considered at the following month's meeting. Once approved by the general membership, you pay the $50 initiation fee plus prorated dues (within 60 days to be in good standing).

Club follows NRA safety rules strictly: - Eye and ear protection required - Know your target and what's beyond - Guns unloaded until ready to shoot - Finger off trigger until ready - Proper ammunition only - No alcohol or drugs before/while shooting - Regular cleaning required
