Location details and information

Since 1911, the Western Montana Fish & Game Association has been the backbone of Montana's hunting, fishing, and shooting heritage. Today, the WMFGA operates Deer Creek Shooting Center (DCSC) in East Missoula—a member-owned facility that prioritizes safe, accessible recreational shooting.

DCCS membership gives you access to a sprawling range complex with dedicated bays for every shooting discipline:

Pistol Ranges: - Three 50-yard bays with covered firing points, benches, and target backers - Three 35-yard bays with benches and backers - Ten short-range bays (20–35 yards) with benches and backers, including two covered firing points - One 25-yard youth bay with benches and backers

Rifle & Long-Range: - Full rifle bay setup with 100 and 300-yard distances - Target backers provided; you can bring your own stands for shorter ranges

Shotgun & Archery: - Dedicated shotgun bay - Archery bay for bow shooting

Outdoor shooting is daylight-hours only. The gate stays locked except during board-approved events. Members get immediate access at local sporting goods stores—just grab your application receipt and complete the online safety training.

Every member takes a mandatory safety training video and quiz before range access. Renewing members get an abbreviated version. The rules are strict but straightforward:

Gun Safety Fundamentals: Assume all guns are always loaded. Never point a muzzle at any person. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. Know your target and what's beyond it.

Muzzles point downrange only. Before anyone goes downrange, all firearms must be unloaded with actions open, cased, or holstered. While people are downrange, no one handles firearms.

  • Range Stewardship matters here:
  • Pick up your trash (metal casings can stay)
  • Never move target backers
  • No shooting at wildlife
  • No breakable targets except clay pigeons
  • No photo targets of real people, incendiaries, tracers, or pyrotechnics

When four or more shooters share a bay, a designated Range Officer coordinates fire and cease-fire commands. Any member can serve as RO.
