Full description and what we offer
Philmont Rod and Gun Club was founded in the late 1890s and formally incorporated in 1923. That's over 130 years of continuous operation in the Village of Philmont, nestled in New York's Hudson Valley. This is a 501(c)(7) organization with 200+ active members dedicated to sportsmanship, firearm safety, and land conservation.
The club maintains serious shooting infrastructure across 1,300+ acres of owned and posted land:
| Activity | Days | Times |
|---|---|---|
| Trap Shooting | Sunday, Tuesday, Friday | Sun 10:00 AM; Tue/Fri varies by season |
| Winter Trap | Fri/Tue/Sun | 1:00 PM (ends late October) |
| Spring/Summer Trap | Fri/Tue/Sun | 3:00 PM Friday; starts around May 1 |
| Club Meetings | 4th Monday | 7:30 PM at clubhouse |
Note: The range closes during scheduled trap shooting events. Check the calendar for archery leagues and special shoots.
The club actively runs trap competitions, including participation in the 2025 Capital Region Trap League. Youth shooters benefit from dedicated programming, including high school trap team support (Taconic Hills High School Trap Team participates). The club maintains detailed photo galleries from competitions and events.
Competitive archers use the 3D range for practice and sanctioned events. HVAA (Hudson Valley Archery Association) schedule events run through the club throughout the year.
Members get access to 1,300+ acres of club-owned and posted hunting land. The organization actively manages hunting rules and publishes landowner guidelines to ensure responsible use. Seasonal activities include pheasant hunting seasons with dedicated planning and photo documentation.
The stocked pond provides fishing opportunities for members. The club runs annual fishing derbies promoted as "Generations Fishing Together," emphasizing family participation.
The club runs dedicated youth activities including fishing derbies, shooting competitions, and sportsmen's challenges. Photo galleries document game dinners, parties, picnics, and youth events—showing this is about community, not just shooting.
PRGC actively tracks New York firearm legislation and educates members on changes. The club posts alerts about pistol recertification requirements and recent law changes affecting gun owners in the state.
The club is a 501(c)(7) tax-exempt organization. Membership provides access to all ranges, hunting land, events, and the community's 130+ year tradition.
