Location details and information
Genesee Conservation League was founded in 1925 by a group of Rochester conservationists as the Rochester Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, and was renamed GCL upon incorporation in 1934. The club moved to its present 32-acre site, based in Scottsville, in 1948, and its clubhouse was built the following year with material and labor donated by members. In 1975, the Myopia Pistol Club merged with GCL and helped build the club's indoor pistol range. Membership has grown to more than 2,000, and the club has hosted the Empire State Games.
GCL centers on three areas: archery, pistol, and rifle shooting, spanning indoor and outdoor ranges. The archery range includes practice butts from 15 to 50 yards, a 30-target 3D course, a broadhead practice pit, and a 20-yard indoor archery building with limited access.
The clubhouse includes a bar, lounge, and kitchen used for special events, along with a large hall available for parties and rentals.
