Brooks and Carol Kummer had a simple idea: get kids off computers and into the outdoors. That vision became McKenzie County Sportsman's Club, now a thriving nonprofit with multiple ranges and education programs serving North Dakota.
The club operates:
- •100, 200, and 300-yard rifle ranges – exclusive use rentals
- •25-yard pistol range – for handgun practice
- •Trap range (3 houses) – clay shooting
- •100-yard rimfire range – .22 LR only
- •Indoor 65-yard archery range – 80' x 235', heated and air conditioned year-round
- •Outdoor archery stations – 14 field point stations (free, no broadheads)
Members get full access 8 AM to 8 PM, 7 days a week. Non-members can shoot Tuesday–Thursday and Saturday, noon to 5 PM.

The club hosts North Dakota Game & Fish Hunter Safety Courses (free, state-registered) multiple times per year. They also run:
- •Badlands Bullseyes 4-H Archery Club – competitive youth archery
- •Watford City Wolves School Trap Team – youth trap shooting through the school district
"Members and volunteers have been and continue to be the backbone of this developing project."
Operating as a 501(c)3 (McKenzie County Outdoor Education Center), the club secured grants through the Pittman-Robertson Act and local support. In 2023, the Kummers donated additional land—expansion plans include a larger trap/skeet complex and camping facilities for tournament shoots.
