Ashland Lake Gun Club sits on U.S. Route 42, about 4.5 miles south of West Salem in Ashland County. The club operates on 148 wooded acres and caters to pistol shooters, shotgunners, and rifle shooters with dedicated facilities for each discipline.
Pistol Ranges
5 pistol bays accommodate bowling pin shooting, target shooting, and IDPA matches. The club runs an active IDPA program with monthly matches using Practiscore for online registration and scoring.
Shotgun Ranges
Separate trap and skeet ranges with regularly scheduled matches. The club welcomes both experienced shooters and beginners. Rounds take about 25 minutes for skeet, slightly less for trap. Shotguns must be 12, 20, 28, or .410 gauge capable of holding 2 rounds (semi-auto, over/under, or tactical shotguns allowed). Shell loads limited to #9, #8, or #7-1/2 shot. A 12 gauge semiautomatic is available if you don't have your own.
Rifle Ranges
Multiple ranges at 300, 200, 100, and 50 yards—all capable of simultaneous operation. The club hosts CMP-type high power rifle matches, silhouette matches, antique arms matches, and Garand matches.
The club offers something for practically every firearm caliber and type. Beginner-friendly instruction is available at most events.

Bowling pin competitions are fast-paced and time-based. Stand 25 feet from a table with five pins, fire on command, and knock them all off as fast as possible. Three attempts per shooter—the slowest time is thrown out, and the fastest two are averaged for your final score.
Categories cover virtually any handgun caliber and shotgun gauge: - Auto and pump shotguns (12 & 16 gauge) - Limited and unlimited semi-auto pistols - Limited and unlimited revolvers - Single action revolvers (cowboy category) - .22 rimfire (limited and unlimited) - 9mm/.40 S&W duty-style guns - .410–20 gauge shotguns
Eye protection is required at all times. Tickets sold until 2:00 PM (or later if turnout is light). Gate opens 11:30 AM for non-members. New shooters encouraged to arrive early for orientation and coaching.
Beyond competitive shooting, ALGC includes:
Bird House Bistro
Cold bottled water (25 cents), hot coffee or tea (75-cent donation), free hot dogs around lunchtime (though donations of $1 per dog appreciated). Cash only—change isn't always available, so bring exact amount.
All shooters must: - Complete and bring a liability waiver form - Familiarize yourself with range rules - Bring proper eye and ear protection - Follow all safety directions from range officers
