Fort Harmar Rifle Club

Fort Harmar Rifle Club was established in 1926 by local shooting enthusiasts with a straightforward mission: provide a safe place to shoot, promote marksmanship, and protect Second Amendment rights. That mission hasn't changed. What has changed is their facilities.

The Indoor Range sits just outside Marietta in Oak Grove, about 7 minutes from downtown. It has six bays and handles .22 rimfire rifles, air rifles, and handguns up to .44/45 caliber. This is where NRA-certified and OPOTA-certified pistol instructors teach classes that qualify members for concealed carry permits.

The Outdoor Range on Fifteen Mile Creek Road is the main event. Built on over 100 acres bought in 1991, it includes:

• •500-yard rifle range
• •Pistol range with 7 bays of varying sizes
• •Live fire shoot house in Bay 3
• •Space to run multiple matches simultaneously
• •All calibers permitted: pistols, rifles, shotguns

Fort Harmar affiliated with the National Rifle Association in May 1931. Today they sanction and conduct various shooting competitions throughout the year, including:

• •Combat/Defense Pistol matches
• •GSSF (Glock Sport Shooting Foundation) events
• •Combat Rifle competitions
• •Rifle and pistol training matches

• •The club maintains an active match schedule—check their calendar for upcoming events. Members can shoot all scheduled activities. Nonmembers are allowed to participate in open matches (fees posted if different from member rates).

Membership Requirements: - No sponsor needed if you have a concealed handgun license or provide proof of background check from law enforcement - If you have a sponsor (existing member), that works too - New members must complete an orientation before range access - Guests of members can shoot up to 3 times per calendar year with the member present

How to Join: - Complete the online membership application and pay by credit card, OR mail a signed application with check/money order to P.O. Box 475, Marietta, OH 45750 - Applications are reviewed at monthly membership meetings (first Wednesday of each month, no meeting in January) - Plan ahead—applications may be tabled until the following month - Membership cards are required to access both ranges (electronic gates)

• •Club Meetings: First Wednesday of each month at the Indoor Range. This is also when visitors can meet members.

Fort Harmar enforces strict safety standards:

Specific restrictions at indoor range: - Only .22 rimfire rifles, air rifles, handguns with .22 rimfire or handgun cartridges up to .44/45 - No centerfire rifles, muzzleoaders, shotguns, or armor-piercing/tracer ammo - Multiple shooters fire from same distance line in each bay - No food or drink in shooting bays - No smoking in meeting room

At outdoor range: - Bay 1: No shotgun-type ammo - Bay 3 (Live Fire House): No shotgun or centerfire rifle ammo except SIM rounds; if catwalk is in use, bays 2 and 4 close - All targets must have proper cardboard backing to prevent impact on wooden structures

The club's objectives also include: - Encouraging rifle and pistol shooting per Constitution and bylaws - Promoting shooting sports among youth and community groups - Advancing hunter safety and conservation - Maintaining positive relationships with community, state, and country

The club logo represents the original pentagonal palisade of Fort Harmar with blockhouses at the vertices. Laurel leaves reference ancient Roman awards for excellence in competition—a fitting symbol for a club that's been running matches for decades.
