Buckeye Outdoors Youth Education & Shooting Center

Copley Trap Range is operated by Buckeye Outdoors Youth Education & Shooting Center in partnership with the Ohio Sportsmen Farmers League. The range focuses on recreational trap shooting and youth shooting sports development in the Akron area.

The range is open Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for public shooting. This schedule was established through a legal agreement with Copley Township in 2016, after the range successfully defended itself against closure attempts.

Buckeye Outdoors runs multiple youth development programs:

• •Recreational Youth Trapshooting - Open to young shooters learning the sport
• •Competition Youth Trapshooting (SCTP) - Serious competitors preparing for state and national events
• •Youth Archery Program - Bow hunting and target archery instruction
• •Youth Bird Hunts - Hands-on hunting education
• •Hunter Education Classes - State-certified courses
• •OSFL Outdoor Youth Skills Day - Annual outdoor skills event
• •Lakes & Trails Outdoor Youth Camp - Multi-day youth camping program

The youth trapshooting season runs April through June.

Copley Trap Range hosts a competitive winter league starting in January. Registration fills quickly—18 teams signed up within 2 hours when registration opened for the 2025-2026 season. During winter league events, open shooting is limited to one trap field to accommodate league competition.

• •Annual Buffet Dinner & Reverse Raffle - Held in mid-March at the Barberton Moose Hall (250 31st St. NW, Barberton, Ohio). Doors open 5:00 PM for raffles, dinner at 6:00 PM, drawings begin 7:00 PM. Main prize is $1,200 with side boards, buybacks, silent auctions, gun raffles, and bucket raffles. All profits support the youth shooting sports program.

After 6 years of discussions and 2 lawsuits within 3 years, Copley Township Trustees reached a settlement agreement with the range in August 2016. Judge Corrigall Jones signed the agreement, allowing Copley Trap Range to continue operating on its current Saturday schedule.

The range received support from Safari Club International Ohio Chapter, the NRA, and local legal counsel during this dispute.

The facility honors longtime supporters like Bill Trout and acknowledges sponsors including TNT Machine Shop. The organization emphasizes youth development with their motto: "Children are the greatest natural resource we have."
