Carter Firearms

Carter and Genny Hasty started Carter Firearms in August 2009 as a side project from their living room. What began as a small desk in the corner—offering only transfers and special orders to friends and family—grew into a licensed operation serving a community that needed a local FFL dealer.

• •April 2014: The operation moved to a 128 sq ft building in their front yard with one display case, basic ammunition stock, and minimal accessories. Still appointment-only in evenings and weekends.

• •January 2020: Expansion to a 1,600 sq ft storefront brought new capabilities: firearm cleaning, minor gunsmithing, consignment auctions, scope mounting with bore sighting, and a broader product range including optics, parts, and accessories.

• •January 2025: After Genny's health challenges (EDS, MCAS, POTS diagnoses), the business downsized to a cozy 200 sq ft "tiny shop" while specializing in personalized services.

They're already listed on several major gun retailer websites as an FFL option. When you buy online, shipments must go through a licensed dealer—that's where Carter Firearms comes in.

• •What they transfer: Long guns, handguns, frames/receivers, serialized parts (barrels, FCUs)
• •What they won't transfer: NFA-regulated items (SBRs, silencers)
• •Acceptable shipments from: Other FFL dealers or private individuals
• •Carriers accepted: USPS, UPS, FedEx
• •Transfer fee: $20.00 per serial number
• •Hold period: 30 days; after which the firearm becomes shop property
• •Critical rule: The purchaser must also be the transferee (no picking up for someone else—federal law violation)

Have a gun to sell? They handle the entire process: inspection, photography, tagging, display in-shop, online auction listing, packing, and shipping.

How it works: - Information logged: Make, model, caliber, barrel length, stock/barrel finish, serial number, accessories - Online auctions run 7 days and auto-relist weekly for up to 90 days - You set minimum sell prices (editable before first bid) - Payment issued when sale completes with fees automatically deducted - Cannot privately sell consignment items without a Retraction of Consignment

Retraction fees: - 5% of listed price - $5 listing fee (every 90 days) - Background check required to retrieve firearm

When manufacturers need to repair or replace firearms, Carter Firearms handles the FFL logistics so you don't have to.
