You walk in, find what you want, complete your DROS paperwork, and if you're prepared, you can be on the range with your new gun the same afternoon. No waiting around town hitting multiple shops.

LA Gun Store administers FSC tests seven days a week with DOJ-certified instructors. This is required for all California firearms purchases unless you qualify for an exemption (military active duty, law enforcement, CCW permit holders, valid hunting license for long guns, etc.).
To test, you need: - Be 18 years or older - Valid California Driver's License or DMV ID Card
Study materials are free—download the FSC study guide or watch the HSC video before you come in. Scoring 75% (23 of 30 questions) passes you. Valid for 5 years.
If you don't buy from LA Gun Store, you can still get your FSC here. Many shooters do exactly this—grab their certificate, then shop around if they want.

All firearms purchases and transfers—including private party sales and gun show purchases—must go through a licensed dealer (DROS process). No exceptions in California.
