Philly Gun Instructor

Philly Gun Instructor operates out of Delaware Valley Sports Center (101 Geiger Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19115) and teaches the nationwide NRA standard for firearms instruction. The focus: training shooters the right way and certifying new instructors to teach others.

If you've never shot before, start here. All basic courses include range time, eye and ear protection, targets, and a rental firearm if needed.

• •Basic Pistol - $150
• •2 hours classroom + 1 hour range
• •Handgun types, function, loading/unloading, ammunition basics
• •Fundamentals of accurate shooting, grip, stance, malfunction response
• •Gun cleaning and maintenance
• •Handguns from .22 LR to .45 ACP accepted; Glock 17/19 rentals available
• •Ammunition sold on-site

• •Basic Rifle - $150
• •3-hour course focusing on semi-automatic AR-15 style rifles
• •Gun safety rules, parts ID, function, ammunition, loading/unloading
• •Proper body position and iron sights (see Optics & Zeros workshop for red dots/scopes)
• •Malfunction handling, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly
• •Free rifle rental included; supply 40 rounds (~$10 for 20-round box)

• •Full shotgun fundamentals and safe handling

Become an NRA-certified instructor and teach what you know. Three-part courses (24 hours total over 3 days) held at Delaware Valley Sports Center.

NRA Pistol Instructor Certification

• •What's included: NRA trainers guide, course outline, binders, access to NRA store discounts and training materials center. NRA credentialing fee ($30 for 2-year term) paid separately after class.

Requirements: - NRA membership (required) - Pistol (.22 LR to .45 ACP); Glock 17/19 loans available - Ammunition (no reloads) - Eye/ear protection, note-taking material - Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook from basic course

Pricing breakdown if you already have experience: - Already an NRA instructor, need parts 1 & 3: $450 - Completed basic course, need parts 2 & 3: $300 - NRA instructor with basic course completed: $250

NRA Rifle Instructor Certification

Similar structure to pistol (24 hours, 3 days). Currently closed to new applicants.

Rifles from .22 LR to .308 accepted; AR-15 (5.56) loans available. Bring 60 rounds of ammunition.

• •Optics and Zeros Workshop - Red dot and scope fundamentals (recommended for those with optics)
• •Defensive Pistol - Armed self-defense techniques
• •Defensive Rifle - Rifle-based defensive training
• •Force on Force - Scenario-based training
• •Duty Pistol - Law enforcement-specific instruction
• •Patrol Rifle - AR-platform duty rifle training
