Guthsville Rod & Gun Club has been operating since at least the 1940s (some members say longer) and now occupies 40+ acres with a 1½ acre pond in Orefield, Pennsylvania—just north of Allentown near the intersection of Routes 309 and 22.

The club maintains a live-in caretaker and operates every day of the year:

Restroom facilities are available throughout the day in the clubhouse. Membership includes a one-year probationary period for new members.

Outdoor Ranges: - 25/50-yard bullseye pistol range (covered firing line) - 25-yard range - Plinking range - 50 and 100-yard rifle ranges (100-yard has covered firing line) - 35-yard special purpose range - Informal trap range (commercial-grade thrower) - Black powder dedicated range - 50-foot range - Basic archery range

Indoor Facility: State-of-the-art 25-yard indoor range reserved for matches and organized practice. Separate clubhouse building with restrooms.

  • •Bullseye Leagues — Two leagues run year-round:
  • •Summer League (May–September): Fridays at 6 PM on the outdoor 25/50-yard range
  • •Winter League (November–April): Indoors at 6 PM
  • •Equipment: .22 caliber or centerfire (.32+), semi-auto or revolver, open sights or red-dot scopes
  • •No club membership required; new shooters welcome

  • •Guthsville Outlaw Pistol & PCC Program — Moved away from strict IDPA rules to reduce costs and allow more firearm types:

  • •Divisions: P-45, Stock Pistol, Carry Optic, Revolver, Open, PCC-Optic, Concealed Carry

Guthsville has long provided services to area police units and maintains a dedicated range specifically for police training.

All competitive matches enforce strict safety protocols: - Immediate disqualification for unsafe firearm handling (sweeping, finger on trigger, muzzle violations) - Clear range commands: "Range Is Hot," "Load and Make Ready," "Standby," "Stop," "Unload and Show Clear" - Safe areas for handling, holstering, dry firing, and equipment adjustment - Dropping a firearm during any stage = automatic match disqualification

  • •Scoring uses raw time plus point deductions (multiplied by 0.5 seconds), plus penalties:
  • •Procedural errors: 3 seconds
  • •Non-threat hits: 5 seconds each
  • •Black targets count as hard cover
