Full description and what we offer
Quik Response Training Institute is a South Dakota-certified firearms training operation based in Sioux Falls, at 822 East 41st Street, Suite 200. Kevin is one of only 62 trained Enhanced CCW instructors in the entire state, offering classes that are recognized by Minnesota and reciprocal carry states.
All training includes classroom education on deadly force laws and South Dakota gun statutes (approximately 4.5 hours), a written test (70% pass required—everything covered in class), and live fire qualification with 98 rounds of ammunition fired under supervision.
What to bring: - Your own handgun - 98+ rounds of ammunition - Eye and ear protection (mandatory) - Holster (recommended but not required for indoor range sessions)
Eye and ear protection is mandatory. No loner guns or rental firearms provided. If the range offers rentals and ammunition sales, that's between you and the facility—not included in class fees.
| Class Type | Cost | Duration | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enhanced Concealed Carry | $125 | 2 days (classroom + range) | New permit applicants, requires 30-day SD residency |
| Enhanced Renewal | $125 | Half-day (1.5–2 hours classroom + range) | Permit holders renewing, no fingerprints required after July 1, 2023 |
| NRA Basic Pistol | $125 | 2 days (classroom + range) | First-time handgun owners and beginners |
| Private Basic Pistol | $150 | Flexible | 1–2 hours classroom + 30 minutes range time, customized to your level |
| Private Renewal | $125 | Flexible | One-on-one permit renewal training |
No Permit Application Fees: As of July 1, 2022, there's no charge for permit applications, fingerprinting, or background checks in South Dakota. You only pay for the class and ammunition.
Kevin offers private and small group training tailored to your experience level. Whether you've never touched a gun or want to improve speed and accuracy, you help design the curriculum. Private sessions include 1–2 hours of classroom instruction and 30 minutes of range time. Flexible weekday and weekend scheduling is available.
South Dakota now offers three levels of concealed carry permits—all free. The Enhanced permit is recognized by Minnesota and an expanding list of reciprocal states. To qualify:
1. Be a 30-day resident of South Dakota 2. Attend classroom training (4.5 hours) 3. Safely fire 98 rounds of live ammunition 4. Complete two fingerprint cards at your county Sheriff's office 5. Submit fingerprints to the Department of Criminal Investigation Records Division for a background check 6. Receive your certificate of completion and fingerprint cards after live fire 7. Take everything to your county Sheriff's office for fingerprinting and processing
Your permit is mailed directly by the Secretary of State's office.
Renewal classes are scheduled on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 PM at the Quik Response training room, with shooting immediately after at Gary's Gun Shop. The shooting portion typically takes about 20 minutes. You can shoot anytime within the scheduled 3-hour window—come when it's convenient.
As of July 1, 2023, fingerprints are no longer required for Enhanced renewals. You only need to complete the classroom and live fire requirement.
Kevin is a certified South Dakota Enhanced Concealed Carry instructor with current NRA Basic Pistol credentials. He's serious about training quality: instructors have the right to end your session if you're deemed unsafe. His philosophy is clear—he wants you to be the survivor if you're ever involved in a firearm incident.
