Smith & Wesson Academy operates a state-of-the-art training facility in Maryville, Tennessee focused on delivering firearms instruction that bridges the gap between classroom fundamentals and actual tactical proficiency. The facility is built around genuine professional needs—designed with input from top operators to replicate scenarios you can't simulate anywhere else.
Mark T. Cochiolo brings 37 years of Naval Special Warfare experience directly into every course. As a retired SEAL Chief Warrant Officer, he co-created the Navy SEALs' rigorous firearm training program and served as:
- •Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) Land Warfare Training Officer
- •Weapons Instructor & Combat Systems Trainer
- •Contract BUD/S Instructor for Curriculum Development & Marksmanship Training
This isn't someone teaching from a book. Cochiolo built the system the SEALs use.

The Shoot House is Purpose-Built for Simunition Training - This isn't a static range. The 4,000+ square foot facility features movable wall paneling, integrated video feedback systems for real-time performance analysis, and internal/external staircases that allow instructors to set up high-stakes scenarios that replicate actual tactical environments.
Programs are organized by skill level:
- •Beginner courses establish disciplined technique, foundational safety, and rapid response fundamentals
- •Intermediate courses build on core skills with scenario complexity and tactical proficiency
- •Advanced courses target operational readiness and high-demand professional applications
Classroom instruction covers firearm safety, legal responsibilities, marksmanship fundamentals, and maintenance. On-range practical instruction includes supervised shooting sessions, technique coaching, and scenario-based training.
Instructors adjust method, manner, and content based on:
- •Individual student skill level
- •Operating conditions at the facility
- •Current range protocols and safety procedures
- •Specific professional or competitive goals

Courses are registered online at Academy.Smith-Wesson.com. Fees vary by course level and length. Students are responsible for additional costs including ammunition, background checks, travel, and rental equipment not included in course fees.
Students must:

- •Certify they're legally eligible to possess firearms under federal and state law
- •Disclose any physical or mental health conditions that could impact training safety
- •Comply with all safety regulations, wear required protective gear, and follow range officer commands
- •Refrain from alcohol, drugs, or substances that impair judgment
- •Maintain good physical and mental health for participation
Cancellation Policy: Full refund if cancelled 14+ days before training date. 50% refund between 14-2 days. No refund within 1 day. Students who fail background checks receive a full refund minus the background check fee. No refund if safety violations or rule breaches occur.
The Academy also hosts industry events including competitions, intensive tactical training sessions, and exclusive networking summits for professionals and firearms enthusiasts.
