Competitive Archery Program closed its doors on June 1st, 2019, after five years of training competitive archers in Austin. The program focused on National Training System (NTS) coaching for recurve and compound shooters ages 12 and up.
CAP wasn't a beginner facility—it was designed for archers who already understood competitive archery and were serious about improvement. Members had to:
The program capped membership at just 18 archers, with preference given to shooters ages 12-15.
Private Lessons - Up to 2 private lessons per month with Coach Alex (included in membership) - Available 3 days a week - Additional lessons: $75/hour
Group Training - Weekly Saturday group classes - Focus on team dynamics, competition strategy, and mental aspects - Monthly tournaments (60-72 arrows) during group class - Bimonthly progress evaluations
| Membership Type | Cost | Benefits |
|---|---|---|
| CAP Archer | $150/month | 2 private lessons/month, group classes, facility access, monthly tournaments, evaluations |
| CAP Affiliate | $75/month | Facility access with their child (no coaching, no evaluations) |
The flat fee structure meant whether an archer attended all group classes or just one, the cost remained the same—designed to incentivize full program engagement.
Bimonthly evaluations tracked: - Attendance at group classes - Private lesson participation - Willingness to adopt form changes - Mental toughness and log submissions
Probation triggered if archers missed 50% of group classes, skipped the monthly tournament, or refused to work on shot process improvements. Dismissal followed if no significant improvement showed by the next evaluation.
For archers who didn't meet full program requirements, Austin-area alternatives included Archery Training Center (South Austin) and Central Texas Archery (North Austin), both affiliated with or coached by CAP staff.
