Pines Sporting Clays

Pines Sporting Clays is a private shotgun-only club located just under 3 miles from the loop in Lufkin, Texas. Founded in 1961 under Dan Vines, the club nearly disappeared by 1988 before a group of local wing-shooters revitalized it in 1989. What started as an informal skeet and trap operation evolved into a full sporting clays facility affiliated with the National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA).

Today, Pines operates on 115 acres of rolling hills and creek bottoms in the Piney Woods region, featuring:

• •Dedicated classroom for instruction and safety training

"Golf with a shotgun"—courses designed to mimic real hunting scenarios. Targets vary in speed, angle, distance, and presentation. It's dynamic, unpredictable, and tests your adaptability.

Shooting stations arranged in a semi-circle with high house and low house throwers launching targets diagonally across the field from opposite ends.

Targets launched from the trap house in a consistent manner, flying away at fixed angle, speed, and trajectory. Wind and mechanical variations create the unpredictability.

Like sporting clays but condensed. Eight targets per field, each varying in speed, direction, height, and angle. Simulates different hunting scenarios in a single station.

Advanced sporting clays with three or more clay machines offering different presentations. Multiple single targets followed by report pairs and doubles.

Pines hosts 4-5 NSCA shoots annually, plus 2-3 charity shoots. Seasonal leagues run throughout the year:

• •Fall & Spring Leagues: 6 weeks each
• •Summer League: 3 weeks
• •Upcoming shoots: Rooter Open, Rooter Rampage, Rooter Revenge, Christmas in the Pines, Envelopes for Hope

Pines is deeply committed to growing the next generation of responsible shooters. They partner with:

What they provide: - Professional-grade training facility with lighted courses for after-school practice - Hosted competitions at local, regional, and state levels - Dedicated classroom for instruction and safety training - Sponsorship and financial support (discounted fees, equipment donations) - Mentorship and coaching from experienced shooters - Fundraising venue support for youth organizations

Pines rents the facility for private events, corporate outings, and charity shoots. Base rental: $2,000 minimum (covers 40 shooters). Additional shooters at $50 each.

Daily rental rates: - Monday-Friday: $150 (no clubhouse) or $500 with clubhouse & kitchen - Saturday-Sunday: $250 (no clubhouse) or $650 with clubhouse & kitchen - All-day with Sporting Clays course: $2,000 minimum - Deposit: $250 (refundable after cleanup)

• •What's included: Clubhouse, restrooms, 1 porta john, clay targets available at $50 per 100 birds.

• •Volunteer requirement: Events need at least 30 committed volunteers on-site for successful execution.

The board has 70+ years of combined shooting experience at Pines and is actively passing the tradition to the next generation. Members are elected annually each August.

Pines is a private club that accepts all people but reserves the right to revoke membership when safety protocols are not maintained. Waivers required for all shoots.
