Full description and what we offer
Alpine Mounted Archery is the first and only mounted archery club in the state of Utah, founded in January 2016. They're an affiliated club under the Mounted Archery Association of the Americas (MA3), operating from 2918 E Crest Rd, Eagle Mountain, UT 84005.
Mounted archery traces back to nomadic Central Asian horse cultures and the armies of Genghis Khan. Today, over 30 countries have mounted archery programs. Grand Masters like Kim Young Sup of South Korea have revitalized the sport internationally. Alpine Mounted Archery preserves and teaches this historical martial art.
Year-Round Training - Weekly practice sessions during warm months - Indoor shooting sessions during winter focused on form and accuracy - Regular clinics customized for new members
Competitions & Grading - MA3-sanctioned grading sessions (minimum 4 per year) - Postal matches (minimum 2 per year) - Annual national competition - Three main competition formats: - Raid: Single, double, and triple shot disciplines - Qabac: Shooting circular targets at 7m-high poles - Tower: Three vertical targets across 30m sections
Most horses adapt quickly. Contrary to common assumptions, most horses handle shooting off their backs well. Some take 3-5 sessions to relax while walking and trotting; cantering under fire takes additional practice.

Every practice, demonstration, and competition has a designated safety officer who: - Monitors all riders and shooters - Controls entry/exit from the shooting run via whistle or bullhorn - Oversees arrow collection - Designates safe travel areas - Sets up ground shooting safely
Willful safety violations result in verbal warning (1st), written warning (2nd), or probation (3rd).
Alpine Mounted Archery operates as a Utah non-profit with a Board of Directors including positions for President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Director of Membership, and specialty directors (Competitions, Communications, Education, Events, Marketing, Technology).
Mounted archery combines precision shooting with horsemanship and history. Targets are close (7m to 40m maximum), making it accessible for beginners while remaining technically demanding. The sport requires: - Bow control and accuracy - Horse handling and desensitization - Balance and coordination while moving - Understanding of arrow physics (archer's paradox)
Whether you love archery, love horses, or just want something completely different—Alpine Mounted Archery teaches both ground and mounted techniques.
