James grew up hunting and fishing in Oklahoma, shooting since age 9. He holds certifications from both the United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA Certified Firearms Instructor #1159965) and the National Rifle Association (NRA Certified Firearms Instructor #2203278), plus Utah Certified Firearms Instructor credentials. His training covers:

Freedom Services & Training operates a state-of-the-art laser range available for membership. Laser cartridges are stocked in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Members get private time slots—no sharing range time with other customers. Rental firearms are available for those who want to train without bringing their own gun. The facility enforces strict gun safety protocols: all personal firearms must arrive unloaded, no live ammunition inside during laser range use, and staff instruction is available for untrained shooters.
