Halifax County Gun Club started in 1973 and has grown into a serious shooting destination on 100 acres of owned property near South Boston, Virginia. In 1979, the National Skeet Shooting Association recognized them as Gun Club of the Year—a credential that still holds weight with competitive shooters across Virginia and the Carolinas.
This is a multi-range shooting facility, not a single-purpose club:
Cost: $150/year with $50 initiation fee (prorated rates available)
How it works: 1. Submit application with fees 2. Need sponsorship from member with 90+ days tenure 3. Attend required Orientation session 4. Board votes on approval 5. Receive membership badge and lock codes (badge must be worn on club property)
Access: Members get daylight-hours access every day. Spouses and dependents can shoot when accompanied by member. New members are on 90-day probation, but membership can be revoked for significant rules violations.
Membership is currently at an all-time high and growing
The club hosts two certified instructors offering concealed carry and firearms courses:

Halifax hosts NSSA-sanctioned registered skeet shoots throughout the year:

Competitors travel from across Virginia, North Carolina, and beyond for these registered events. The club is known statewide for great target presentation, food, and hospitality—multiple first-time visitors to competitions plan to return.
The club has strong volunteer infrastructure—Building and Grounds Chairman manages facility upkeep, Skeet Chairman Barry Akers handles competition scheduling and registration, and Range Chairman Jeff Leslie oversees daily operations and range rules.
