Merica's Defense Firearms Training is run by Cody Stowe, a retired Army infantryman with two decades of real-world military experience. After leaving active duty in 2019, Cody moved to Virginia and started this operation because he saw the gap—too many gun owners had access but no proper training. His father was a Houston PD officer killed in the line of duty, which shaped his commitment to doing this right.
Cody holds certifications as an NRA Instructor, USCCA Certified Instructor, and Virginia DCJS Certified Personal Protection Specialist. He also trained in Modern Army Combatives (Level 3), was a L.I.N.E.S Combatives Instructor, and served as a Military Mountaineering Instructor for the Northern Warfare Training Center in Alaska.
- •Concealed Carry & Home Defense - 8-hour course covering personal and home protection planning, self-defense basics, shooting fundamentals, legal use of force, violent encounter aftermath, and gear selection. Exceeds Virginia state requirements for CCW permits.
- •Defensive Pistol Tactics - Speed, accuracy, and proficiency drills. Being a good shot isn't enough in a gunfight—you need to put rounds downrange fast and accurately under stress.
- •Defensive Rifle & Shotgun Tactics - Movement drills, transition drills (rifle to pistol), magazine changes, and engagement scenarios. Learn when and how to deploy rifles or shotguns for defense.
- •AR-15/AR-10 Training - 5-hour hands-on course covering rifle functions, disassembly/reassembly, sight and optic adjustments, movement and speed drills. Prerequisites: prior firearms safety class and demonstrated safe pistol handling.
- •Active/Mass Shooter Response - 8-hour course designed for businesses, churches, schools, and groups. Covers threat identification, security measures, proactive response, and family protection planning.
